The software can be downloaded from
Then click on "Download" from the left pane. The right pane will show a list of WinVNKey official releases. There are 4 files for version 5.3.429.
You need to download one file only. As the name implies, these files are for Windows NT/2K/XP only.
If you don't need typing Hán or Nôm characters, choose a package that has NO Han/Nom support. There are two such packages: one is exe and the other is zip. Choose exe if you want to install easily; just double click on the exe file and the install process will go automatically.
However, on some XP machines, the exe package fails to install. In that case, just download the zip file and unzip on your machine. Then click on the file winvnkey.exe to run.
This version does not officially support Windows Vista yet. However, you can still use all WinVNKey capabilities (except Han/Nom typing) in Office 2003, IE7, etc. Currently WinVNKey does not work with Notepad and Wordpad because Microsoft imposed strong security policy on these editors.
But you have to tweak Vista before installing and using WinVNKey as follows:
1) Open Windows Explorer and browse to the installation folder. Right click on the file "WinVNKeyNT.exe" and choose: Properties / Compatibility / Run this program in Compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack 2).
2) Or open Control panel / User Acounts / Turn User Account Control On or Off / Then uncheck the box: Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer.
Again, if you have difficulty installing with the exe file, download the zip package.
